How Do I Know Which Healthcare Benefit I Have?

A quick check โ€” with one edge case worth knowing about before you assume your hire date settles it completely.

1

Check your hire date against September 4, 2012

Before that date: likely Premium Subsidy. On or after: likely the Personal Healthcare Fund.

2

Remember this date is separate from your pension plan boundaries

See Why Does My Hire Date Matter? โ€” your healthcare track and your pension plan type use completely different cutoff dates.

3

Confirm officially in miAccount

Log into miAccount โ€” your healthcare benefit type is shown clearly alongside your pension plan.

The edge case hire date alone won't catch

A small number of members hired before September 4, 2012 voluntarily opted into the Personal Healthcare Fund during a one-time conversion window that same year. If that's you, your hire date would suggest Premium Subsidy, but your actual benefit is PHF. This is exactly why Step 3 isn't optional โ€” for most people the hire-date check is enough, but it isn't guaranteed for everyone.

The bottom line

The hire-date rule gets you the right answer most of the time and in seconds โ€” but "most of the time" isn't the same as "always." A thirty-second miAccount login removes all doubt, which is worth doing before you plan around an assumption.
