When Can I Retire?
There's no single retirement age in MPSERS โ your earliest eligible date depends entirely on your plan, and most plans actually give you more than one path to get there.
๐ฌ GLP Retirement MinuteYour Path, by Plan
Don't know your plan yet? Start with Step 1 โ everything below depends on it.
| Your Plan | Earliest Eligible Path(s) |
|---|---|
| Basic Plan | 55 w/ 30 years โ or โ 60 w/ 10 years |
| MIP | 46 w/ 30 years โ or โ 60 w/ 10 years โ or โ 60 w/ 5 years |
| Pension Plus / Pension Plus 2 | 60 w/ 10 years for the pension portion โ this age can tick up slightly over time by statute, but never below 60 |
| DC Plan | No MPSERS-set retirement age โ it's a savings account. Access follows standard retirement-account rules based on when you separate from service, not a plan-defined eligibility date. |
MIP is the only plan with a true early path (46 with 30 years) โ nearly 15 years earlier than the standard age-60 track other plans use. If you're MIP and unsure which path fits your timeline, this is worth confirming precisely.
Retiring at your earliest eligible date can mean a permanently reduced monthly benefit compared to waiting. "Can I retire early?" and "should I retire early?" are two different questions โ this roadmap covers the first; the second depends on your full financial picture.
Find your plan in the table above, confirm your exact years of service in miAccount, and you'll know your earliest possible date today โ not an estimate, an actual milestone you can plan around.
