What Comes Out of My Paycheck?
⏱ GLP Retirement MinuteBesides ordinary taxes, MPSERS takes its own bite out of every paycheck — and exactly how much depends entirely on which plan you're in. There's no single answer here, which is exactly why this trips people up.
Your Retirement Contribution
This is the deduction that funds your own pension and/or personal savings account. It varies more than almost anything else on this roadmap.
| Your Plan | What Comes Out | Goes Toward |
|---|---|---|
| Basic Plan (original) | 0% | Noncontributory — nothing deducted for your pension |
| Basic 4% | 4% | Your pension, in exchange for keeping your full multiplier |
| MIP (any variant) | ~3.9–7% | Your pension — exact rate depends on which MIP variant and when you enrolled |
| Pension Plus | Graded % | A graded pension contribution, plus whatever you've elected for your personal savings account |
| Pension Plus 2 | 6.2% + 2% | 6.2% to your pension, 2% to your personal savings account |
| DC Plan | Your choice | No mandatory pension contribution — you elect your own savings rate (auto-enrolled at a default if you don't choose) |
Head back to Step 1: What Plan Am I In? if you haven't already — everything on this page reads differently depending on the answer.
Your Healthcare Contribution
A separate deduction, layered on top of your retirement contribution, and it depends on your hire date rather than your plan type.
You're automatically enrolled in the Personal Healthcare Fund: you contribute 2% of your salary, and your employer matches it with another 2%.
For years, Premium Subsidy members paid an additional 3% healthcare contribution. That requirement ended October 1, 2025. If your paycheck went up recently and you weren't sure why, this is very likely it — and you may be eligible for reimbursement of past contributions. Check miAccount for your specific situation.
Standard Social Security, Medicare, and income tax withholding still apply the same way they would on any paycheck — this page only covers the deductions that are specific to MPSERS.
The percentages above are close, but "close" isn't good enough for your own budget. Your pay stub shows your exact deduction, and miAccount will confirm precisely which plan and rate apply to you.
