GLP Retirement Roadmap
For Brand-New MPSERS Members

Your First 75 Days

One decision, one real deadline, and it's permanent once made. Everything else on this site can wait — this can't.

Is This You?

✓

This is your first-ever job at a Michigan public school — you've never been an MPSERS member before.

✓

You started within roughly the last 75 days.

Already an MPSERS member moving between districts? This election doesn't apply to you — your existing plan carries over. Head to Step 1: What Plan Am I In? instead.

Find Your Exact Deadline

Not "about 75 days" — your actual date.

Your Election Deadline

The Actual Choice

Not a recommendation either way — just what each one actually is.

Pension Plus 2

A hybrid plan: a smaller guaranteed pension (calculated by formula, unaffected by markets) plus a personal savings account you also contribute to.

Generally favors staying in Michigan public education for the long run — the pension slice rewards years of service.

DC Plan

A pure savings account — no pension component at all. Your balance depends entirely on contributions and investment performance.

Fully portable if you leave Michigan public education — you take the whole balance with you.

The bottom line

Make an active choice if you can — even a quick, informed one beats a default by accident. If you're genuinely unsure, log into miAccount to submit your election, and come back to the rest of this roadmap once the pressure's off.
